Passive Investor Journal

Around this time of year, it’s a good time to analyze your current life and set your goals for the next year and beyond. I call this game planning. How are savvy passive investors staying on course to achieve not only their financial goals but also personal goals.

  • Take the time to reflect on the previous year: pray and meditate on all their achievements from the previous year.
  • Transition to looking at 3-5-year goals and evaluating those goals from where your current position.
  • Evaluate what is still relevant and what isn’t, make the corrections as necessary and align your focus.
  • Determine your priorities. Audit yourself and decide what do you need to do to move you closer to your goals.
  • Make your goals realistic. Stay with a big goal that you want achieved by the end of the year, break it down by quarters, then monthly and weekly tasks. Chunking them down to realistic tasks and goals will allow you to see progress.
  • Say no to anything that distracts you from your goals. Don’t add to your plate if it’s not part of your vision for yourself.
  • Eliminate distractions. Do you find yourself on social media more than you like? Or how about sifting through emails and texts? Find a way to dedicate your time to your tasks and goals. What does that look like for you? Time blocking and focusing on one task at a time is a start.
  • Be real with yourself and hold yourself accountable.
  • Outsource anything that you can delegate. By delegating tasks, you allow yourself to grow and focus on the overall picture.
  • Create a vision board. Helps paint the picture and reminds you every time you look at it.
  • Take breaks: we all need our personal time to do something that we truly enjoy doing.

Setting goals and creating the game plan is essential for us to have some direction and guidance in our own personal lives. Reviewing past goals and adjusting to align ourselves only helps us progress. Things change and goals change but we need to have a process for achieving and adjusting if needed.

  • Here are the categories John Fortes uses to focus on when he creates his goals and vision board.
    • Faith and family
    • Finances
    • Travel
    • Fitness
    • Passion

These are just things you can implemented into you life to help you identify, analyze and adjust your goals. How are you setting up your game plan for the new year and beyond?
